What type of surface do you need to clear?
Any Honda snow blower will perform well on concrete or asphalt surfaces. When properly adjusted, two stage snow blowers are perfect for gravel or mixed surfaces. Commercial flat roofs need adjustable auger housing track drive models.
Do you need to clear packed snow, like a snowbank, or driven over snow?
If you answered yes, consider a track drive model. Track drive makes clearing packed snow much easier.
How large of an area do you need to clear?
A larger clearing width makes it faster to clear an area. As a general rule of thumb, the HS720 is great for clearing smaller areas, such as 1-2 car driveways and sidewalks. Consider a two stage snow blower for larger areas, particularly if your area receives frequent and heavy snowfall.
Single-Stage vs Two-Stage?
The Honda HS720 series single-stage snow blowers use the auger to take in snow at a high rate of speed and force the snow out of the discharge chute.
Honda HSS two-stage snow blowers use their augers to take in the snow and feed it to a high speed impeller (or fan-like device). The impeller actually blows the snow out of the discharge chute. Two-stage snow blowers are able to move larger volumes of snow greater distances than single-stage snow blowers.
Track vs Wheel?
Honda's two stage snow blowers offer you the choice of wheel and track drive models.
Track drive offers superior traction through any snow condition. These models grip the ground, making moving up and down inclines easier. As we mentioned above, track models are also preferable for clearing packed snow, as well as commercial flat roofs.
Wheel models are somewhat easier to turn and maneuver. Consider a wheel model for flat surfaces, or if traction is not an issue.
Electric Start vs Recoil?
Honda's HS720 snow blowers offer our premium residential engines, while all our two stage snow blowers feature our legendary commercial grade engines. Honda engines are consistently recognized by professionals and consumers alike for easy starting, even in cold conditions. As a result, recoil start is convenient and easy.
However, some customers prefer to use electric start. Electric start versions are available in all sizes to meet your needs. Electric start models also offer recoil start as a back up. For HS720AS electric start models, simply plug in an extension cord, start the snow blower, unplug, and go!
The HSS724, 928, 1332, and the HS1336iSAS offer even greater convenience with a 12V battery included for the easiest electric start option.
